Claremont's Family Math Night

Family Math Night at Claremont Elementary School was a rousing success and a great way to ring in the Spring season! Nearly 100 families came together to learn about the math program at Claremont but more importantly to learn how math can be used to have fun with your children. Parents and kids visited 7 teacher-run centers to experience fractions, volume, measurement, money, and mathematical operations. With refreshments supplied by the PTA and added support from Manhattanville College, a great time was had by all. video

   Preventing Animal Cruelty

The Claremont Student Congress chose to study Preventing Animal Cruelty this year.  The culminating event was a visit to the SPCA in Briarcliff.  Ms. Alice Shanahan worked with the students throughout this project and led them in a workshop at the SPCA.  Thank you to all parents who attended, Ms. Malone, teacher leader of the Student Congress and Ms. Theis who brought the SPCA to Claremont School.

Fourth Graders Experience Life as a Colonial Child

Students enjoyed a day of living as a colonial child. Students participated in activities to learn the skills and tasks of an 8-10 year old in Colonial America.  Participation included churning butter, making colonial pretzels, candle making, Jacob’s ladder and games.  It was a great interactive experience for all fourth graders.    video

Mr. Fridkin's Globe Project

As part of our studies of world communities, Mr Fridkin’s class has studied map skills and continents and oceans.  Students, with the help of parent volunteers, then created their own paper mache globe with all seven continents painted on.  Children are now doing group research projects on the continent of their choice using many resources including: I Pads, Laptop Computers, Encyclopedias, Non-Fiction Books, and articles.   video

 Future Leaders

After reading the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret together, the Future Leaders  went to see the movie with their families.  They enjoyed comparing the book to the movie and wearing 3D glasses.
